TRAMWAY MATTERS. The following were present at tho meeting of tho Ivorori Borough Council last night: The Mayor (Mr. C. Cathie), Councillors Hamilton, Bradnock, Horn, Hildreth, Nimmo, Burn, Anderson, and Standen. .. Tho Karori Athletic Club wrote asking the council to grant them leavo to use the Recreation Ground on the evenings of March 5, 12, 15,. and 19. They proposed to hold thre events each evening except on March 15, when there will be six events. The application was .granted. Councillor Burn suggested that the 7 a.m. tram from Karori should inako a detour round Aitken Street in order to enable passengers to catch-the train from Lambton Station. Tho Town Clerk was requested to write to the City Council regarding this, matter. The Mayor said that since he last sat at the council table, nearly four weeks ago, lie had travelled about tho country and had, when visiting Wanganui, interviewed the Mayor and had been taken ever tlio Wnnganui tramway system. He lind found tho system very lip to dato and had noted that the charges made by tho Wanganui Council to the Gonville Board, whoso tramway they ran for them on much the same lines as the city did for Karori, were greatly less—9}d„ as against Is. Id. charged to Karori by the city. The Wanganui Council were inviting adjacent boroughs to join with them and were offering them practically level terms. Tho trams already ran to Gonville. Aramoho, St. John's, and Talgor's Hill. Thev were also goin'tr to spend .£9OOO to extend tho trams to West Wanganui. . His Worship said that he had laid these figures before flip M'ovnr of Wellington and Mr. Coble, and lie honed that it would be an inducement to tho Tramwny Board to give Karori .bettei 1 arrangements.
