" • . Mr. W. 3. Sargent, chief clerk, in the goods department of the local railway station, was tendered a farewell on Saturday levering, on his' removal to Dannevirke. Mr-.'Sargent, who leaves for Dannevirke on Thursday, was presented with' a handsome travelling bag and rug. ■ Very fine entries have been received for the Masterton Horticultural Society's 'autumn show, which takes place on 'Wednesday next. It.is anticipated that the .exhibition of fruit, flowers, vegetables, and home industries will be a credit to the district. Mr. A. Jamieson, national organiser of the Y.M.C.A.,' is on an organising campaign in this district. The Masterton Ladies' -Swimming Club held a series of raceson Saturday last as a preliminary to the carnival which takes place on Thursday. About 175 entries have been received. ' A lawn tennis match between the Masterton and Pahiatua Club, which was to lave been, played on Saturday, was postponed, on account of tho "weather. - The only criminal cases set down for hearing at the sitting of the Supremo Court iu Masterton next month are threo of alleged perjury—two from Pahiatua and one from Greytown. The action for alleged libel. W. H. Jackson v. "'Wairarapa Daily Times," and one or two divorce cases, will also he heard.
