Yesterday Mr.. Herbert Scaton, of Willis Street, handed a chequo for £12 17s. 9d. to tho Mayor (Mr. D. M'Laren), which amount Mill go towards tlio Easter carnival re&fipts. Tho chequo was accompanied by a letter, in which Mr. Scaton stales that tho amount contributed is 10 per cent of the pro-s receipts from his business for the l"«t week of a period from February '\ u .a March 1. He expressed the hope that tho cheque which ho would havo pleasure in contributing next week would be a larger one, and lie wished tho carnival every success. The Mayor has instructed- the secretary to write to Mr. Seaton, thanking him for his Konorouß gift
