Christchurch in connection with carnivals:similar to that which; is being' promoted by Wellington. ..citizens for'''the': purpose; of. raising funds to beautify .the city, reserve's predicts'that. the Wellington function will easily eclipse anything of the kind held .in/the Dominion, and should weather conditions be suitable the result should be in the vicinity of X2OOO. Whether '. this prediction will prove correct or otherwise; time. will tell, but the fact remains that the_ various sjjb-coniinit-tees-'are- working with enthusiasm, and tho result of their labours at this early stage, is most encouraging. 'Among tho numerous committees at wprk is the sideshows section,: who recognise that, having secured the presence of a huge concourse- of people to Newtown Park, their duty '.vrill be to amusement and incidentally, relieve patrons of their surplus cash. The committee held another meeting on Friday, when in tho unavoidable absence of. the chairman, Mr. J. V. Luke presided. The following were added to the committee:—Mrs. W. L. Levestram, Messrs. H.'Levy, J. G. Faulkner, A.Levy, ! H. V "C7' W. "Blick; ",\.. Walker, W. L. Levestram. The Miramar Golf: Club (Mr. G. O. Sutton, secretary) intimated that their club would be pleased- to. take charge 'of ithe. golf-putting competition. Mr./El'-Nordon forwarded 'full information; regarding golf-putting, and v intimated that if. possible he 'would come up, from Cliristchu'rchand would give tho executive' all' tho assistance possible. Mr. T. H. Edmanson, district secretary of tho Dominion •Boy Scouts, intimnted tnat the Newtown troop/would be attached to the side-shows section.,' •■'' ,■• ./ The secretary (Mr. Paape) intimated that when at Masterton ho had conferred , .with,' the proprietors o£ the best side"shbws, who would make an offer' to the committee. Messrs. Atkins and: Grange intimated that the Wellington-Meat Export Company and the' Gear Meat Company had each donated a sheep for the guessing competition, and Mr.; Barnett intimated that Mr. Reid, butcher, Brooklyn, :had donated a sheep for -the same competition. A consideralile amount of routine business was also transacted.
