M'KeSJiio (chaifhiiin), Taylor (secretary), Cox, List, Medhurst, Kirk, Abrahall, andl MODonald. The headmaster reported that the number onjhs roll at tho beginning of the month wns 704 primary and 17 secondary scholars; admitted during tho month, 8a primary and 3-t secondary; withdrawn, 88 primary and 22 secondary. .This; left the roll number at the end of tho month showing 701'primnry and 59 secondary, pupils. The secretary of thi Wellington Education Board' advised that the grant for free school-boolcs has been .discontinued; Mr. MlCenzie said that it had takon four years to build up tho system'of free books, and p6\v it had been discontinued. He would therefore niove:—"That tho Petone District High School.Committee.strongly objects to the discontinuance of free school-books and stationery,' and they respectfully protest to Mr. Massev.'' Although the Department has only been operating on these plots sihcC Christmas there is reason to believe that the blight is now almost totally eradicated, .At tho conclusion of iho demonstration, Mr. Bra=;el thanked the experts on behalf of Hutt growers. A demonstration of spraving in a greenhouse will be givon in about a fortnight's time.
