It Is reported, on good authority, that Mr. A. L. Beattio (chief mechanical engineer to the New; Zealand Railways), who retires on . March. 81 next, will bo succeeded by Mr. H. H. Jackson, at present loeomotivo engineer in charge of tho ■Addington Workshops and of loeomotivo work generally on tho Hnrumii-Bluff section. Mr. Jackson stands next in seniority to Mr. Beattie. He has been ih tho service of tho Railways Department for 3G years, and has filled a number of important posts in various parts of the Dominion.
