(From Our Spocial Correspondents.) . 0 : SHANNON. Mrs. W. Kirkland left Shannon this week for Sydney. She will be absent for about two nionths. Mr! and Mrs. A. Thomas and family havo loft this district for the Lower Hutt, whero Mr. Thomas will manago a eawmilling business. Mr. A. C. Mason has been appointed an inspector of the Advances to Settlers Department. Mr. Pleasants, of Wanganui, will, it is stated, tako over Mr. Mason's position as valuer for the workers' branch of tho Department. Mr. J. R. Stausell, formerly of Shannon, who has already unsuccessfully tried to form a town board in Shannon, intends making another effort, and'has convened a public meeting for this purpose for next week. Mrs. Duproe; one of tho assistant teachers at the local school, has received an appointment in Inglewood, and will be leaving Shannon in about a month b timo. ; . 1 , , Considerable interest is being taken in the land sale here on Wednesday next, when tho best business eections are to bo publicly auctioned. The land to bo sold was the property of the lato Mr. T. C. Williams, and has lain idle in the centre of tho town, in the Main Street,-for many years. Bovis) wero exceptionally "good, and well deserved rounds of applause, and bursts of laughter their every appearance provoked. Mrs. W. Norman played the part of Miss Ashford, tho spiritualistic spinster of uncertain age, with great tasto and understanding.
