Fisher, will leave for Auckland on Monday next. . : 1 . The doyen of the City Council, Mr. John Smith, has definitely decided not to be a candidate at the elections in April. Mr. Smith was ,first elected to the council in September, ISBS, and held the position until September, 1893,- when he retired for a time, but was re-elected in June, 1895, and remained a member until April, 1905, when ho unsuccessfully contested the Mayoralty. The neit year saw him resume his seat at the, horseshoe table in tho Town Hall; where ho hai remained ever since.
