"My lands disposal officer reports to mo," he remarked, "that in tho Auckland district, from which, ho ,has just returned, ' , there are 103 sections ready for immediate opening, the total area being 35,117 acres, Several blocks, containing 17,311 acres, ■ ■ divided into 91 sections, will bo advertise cd within "tho hext fortnight, nnd, before tho end of tho financial year, in tho Auckland district alono there will bo 52,448 acres, comprising. 254 sections, •ready for opening. The lands will be offered on op- , tipnablc tenure and renewable loaso. ;. "In connection with land matters," added the Prime Minister, "Ihiive \rithdrawn all the pastoral runs that ; wero intended to bo disposed of in the, near future, on a twenty-one years' lease, with right of renewal, with tho object of getting them reclassified, and pending legislation next session, which will aim ot giving tenants a better tenure and encouraging them to go in for hotter grass- . ing and put more improvements on their lands than they have.,.done up to,tho ' present."
