The contest for tho Centre Shield competition bet.voen tho Wair.irapa Bowling Clubs was continued on Saturday, when Carterton met a Fcatherston rink on the former's greej. A very interesting game resulted, tho home team winning by nine points on the aggregate. Tho weather was very favourable, 'the green being a little heavy after the heavy rain of the previous night. Mr. T. W. Vise, a well-known local poultry breeder, intends entering a pen of Whito Leghorns in the egg-laying competition in the South Island. OTAKI. A move is on. foot to form a kindergarten school in Otaki. It is probable that a party will leave Otaki on. Saturday next to.scalo various points of the Taruruas. Mr. Armitago, who has been assistant teacher at the Otaki Maori College ever since it was established, has resigned from tlje position. Ho will bo succeeded by Mr. French, of Auckland (late ,of ' Colchester,, England), who is an expert in agricultural matters, and will devote much of his time hero to teaching this branch of work. A lady teacher will also be appointed to tho college at an early date. FEILDING. The death ■ccurred this week at Wanganui of Mrs. Agnes Cornfoot, relict of tho lato Mr. Henry Cornfoot, who for many years resided at Halcombe. Mrs. Cornfoot, who was 80 years of was widely, known and respected in the Feilding and Marton districts.
