' '> ; A letter from the Wellington Football Association; asking for permission to include as a carnival attraction the Wel-lington-Auckland boys' representative match, was referred to the Sports' Committee. ' '-..'* ■ The action of the chairman in declining tho offer ol the Donhard Bread Company in connection with a suggested competition, was cunfirnied.
Reports wore received from the commit. I tees arranging the Lyall Bay Gala Day, physical drill display,,children's exorcises, procession, stills, side-shows, grounds, concert, art union, and advertising.. From the reports it appeared that the various matters mentioned were well in hand, and that tho committees were working enthusiastically. "■..-,'.- V In connection with the Sports Committee's report the chairman informed the Executive Committee of the representations made to hinvby the Bishop of Wellington' as to, the desirability of withholding certain oi the proposed events during Holy Week. \ • .','.. After, a lengthy\ discussion, it was decided to refer the 'question of the boxing entertainment'to tjie Sports Committee, with a request that.it interview the Boxing Association with a view to postponing this particular item either.to Easter Tuesday or some lollowini night, .. The Sports ■ Committee's recommendation that the offer of -. the New' Zealand University Tournament-.Conimittoe'to run their championship events at Newtown Park 'on Easter Monday'in consideration of a. payment 0f,.J835 by the CarnivalCommittee, was agreed to by the executive, with a stipulation'.that the.matter of complimentary, pickets'! should bo gone into by the Sports. Committee. _ , It was reported that a 'jneeting of the Visitors' 'Reception Committee would be held on Friday, evening'nrttt, when that committee's programme will bo drafted. An offer by.'tho, boy scouu organisation to detail their various units for service with different • committees was accepted. The scouts will act.as messengers, guard tho stalls at night, and so forth.The executive decided not to Accept, the offer' of Messrs. George and Kersley.to provide prizes for. an essay competition; The secretary was instructed flp interview Dr. Newman;;M.P., in*connection with his offer of a prize for an essay on the natural beauticsof Wellington city and harbour. The secretary was instructed to arrange with Dr. Newman, if possible, for the introduction of 6omo additional feature in the conditions governing .tho essay competition;' which would 6orvo to give prominence to tho carnival. \.
