A sitting of the Lower Hutt Court wa held before Messrs. G. A. Chapman. J. Cudby, and A. Y. Lees, J.P.'s For allowing cattle to wander, the following per--■lons wore fined :—Reginald Hobbs, 2s. Gd.; J. V. Dyke, 10s.; L. Cloake, ,55.; M. Denniston, ss. Court costs 7s. were or-'•;M-ed to be paid in, each. M. TZ. Deanis.ton, charged with riding a motor cycle without a light after dark was ordered to pay Court costs 7s. . One first offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged. The Lower Hutt Borough' Council proceeded against the * following persons for the following amounts, judgment being given for plaintiff by default in each case: —Arthur Brooker, £2 ss. 2d.;'Estate cf ■S. Macarthy, on that blook of land facing Victoria Street, at tho rear of the Opera House, now in course of erection in Manners Street East. The building, which has been dosigned by Mr. J. M. Dawsoni architect, has been taken on a long leaso by Messrs. Magnus, Sanderson and Co., Ltd., motorcar'and cycle warehousemen, and tho whole of the .building will be used by that firm. The ground floor on tho .Victoria Street frontage will be utilised as a showroom, tho first floor will accommodate the clerical staff, and the top floor will' be used as-a storeroom for motor-car and cycle accessories. d Tho back portion of tho building, which ' hag a frontage to the lift.. right-of-way, which is to run between Victoria and Manners Streets; will be fitted as a' modern garage, with every facility for executing repairs and washingdown cars. There will also be provided waiting rooms for Indies and gentlemen, and lockers for clients who use the garage. Mr. Arthur H. l/cid, F.S.M.C, of Balclutha, has just >us?ed the examination, and secured the diploma of the British Optical Association. Mrs. Reid has just returned from a two months' tour of the United Kingdom. He expects to leave for New Zealand In March.
