. 'MOTOR DRIVER KILLED. : - EFFECT' OF TYRE "BLOWING OUT." (By Telefr»ph,—Preea, AeuoolaUon.) • _ Whangarel, February 15. A ' motor fatality occurred at Tangiterotia ■ this: morning.-. 'A party, consisting of J. Hoey, owner and driver of tho taxi, J. Richardson,' N. Weaver, Massey (Whnngarei), and Knowles- (representing Jtovin and Col, Wellington), left Tangiteroria at '8 o'oloqk. Mr. Rdohardson, interviewed .by telephone, states that .they were travelling, on a, good road at ai medium pace, when the back tyre blew out, causing the car to slew round and turn completely, over . sideways.When tliey pot up; after being thrown clear, Hooy was found ■ etill ' sitting in the driver's seat, dead. The rest of the paTty were practically unhurt, but were badly ehaken. Deceased leaves a widow and young family.
DANGER 1 OF GRAVEL PITS. : Invorcarqlll, February 15. An inouest was held to-day regarding the ' death of .John Malonev, who was killed by a fall of gravel while working in a pit. J'ho, oviuenco of his brother 6howed that he was using a . pick at tho bottom when the wholo bank came away, burying him.: When dug out, life was extinct. The Coroner adjourned the inquiry to receive suggestions from the County Engineer regarding precautions to minimise danger to : those engaged in gravel pits..
"FELONIOUSLY KILLED HIMSELF." Auckland, February 16. ■ Tho coroner held an inquiry on Saturday into the death of Roderick Percy Paine, 20 years of ago, who died at the hospital as a result of having taken poison. The coroner intimated to the jury that there was. no reason to suspect temporary insanity, as tho lad had at first denied having taken tho poison, which indicated deliberation. A verdict was returned that deceased died by feloniously killing himself. SUBJECT TO FITS. Robert Murray, a wharf labourer, who is said to ba subject to fits, foil down in Manners Street yesterday, and received some cuts about the head. Dr. Henry was called, and had Murray removed to the Public Hospital. FELL INTO THE HARBOUR. John M'Kennah, a wharf labourer, fell into the harbour yestorday, and was rcsciiod only in the nick of time. Ho is at prosont in tho public hospital.
