Lord Roberts, speaking at Bristol, said he did,not want to arouse an aggressive Jingo spirit. Peaoe, not war, was liis earnest desire. Bo wished to arouse, foster, and dovelop a more manly and patriotic spirit in tho nation and to indilco the youth of the country to guard their heritage. Universal training would discourage the swashbuckling tendencies and ambitions of a military caste. Js'obody suggested that tho overseas system was making the Dominions bellicoso and aggressive.
Lord Roberts repudiated the idea that the compulsory forco would be used to repress strikers. The Labour Government in Australia did not fear this. The wageearners in England had no reason to entertain the idea. \ •
He appealed for funds to enable the National Service. League to maintain, its' crusade. ,
