FIGURES, The final report of tho British Census of Production, iu a volume of-937 fools-cap-sizo pages, completes a gigantic task, and for tho first time' affords a scientific cstimato of the volume and'valuo of goods and articles M nil kinds produced in Britain (says tho "Daily Mail").' Tho work of taking the census lias occupied four years.' Tho immense importance of the results will be seen next year, when a' fresh Census of Production will bo taken, and when it will bo possible for' the first time to measure with exactitude the progress of British industry. : Taking all industries, including agriculture and fisheries, and eliminating duplications, the output of tho United Kingdom 1 was in 1907 between .£1,433,000,000 and J01.118,000,000. -Of this over.4oo millions worth of goods wero exported,'• leaving an' output of British goods for the' Homo' market of, *61,003,0001000 to \81,038,000,000.

This is niuch loss than the output calculated hitherto, Mr. Asquith in 1003 computed that the export trade only employed one-fifth to one-sixth the labour of tho country—tho output of. which, on this • basis, should: have, boon ovur 42,000,000,000. The total income of the country is estimated officially for the first time nt about 42,000,000,000 in 1007.
