A match in which interest was taken by bowlers in all parts of tho Dominion, was played tfn tho Christchurch green t!o-day, when thV winners of tho champion rink competitions at tho tournaments of the Northorn anil Nev Zealand Associations met in.a eories of. three.games. In the second head Bell gave his side..two with: his first. bowl. The third head opened till in favour of United, but Porteous aud Bell eaved well. Woolf nuss'ed a drive for four, and opened his score with-a single. In the fourth head tho leading was, wide, but Brown,'sen., put up two good ones, which remained to the' finish; scores being called "3 all." United opened woll in tno fifth head, and, aidod by a little luck, lay hvo till Porteous pushed Leslie up for a shot. Tho score varied with each of the skips' shots, Bell finishing up with a'perfoct draw for one;' The feature of tho sixth head was one good shot by Fraser,. which .again made , scores even. ..The leading in the seventh head was wide, but Woolf drew a good shot, just failing with his second in trail for five.- 'United lay..-well in the eighth bead, till Leslie trailed for three. Leslie and Tortious were a littlo narrow, tout I'ortMiis, with his second, got a lucky wide, and loy on tho jack, i'raser being a closo second. Woolf drew a perfect shot resting Porteous for two. but leaving tho head very open. Bell then drew a' perfect shot between tho two lying bowls, and followed through a few inchcs but close. Tho measure br the umpire decided in favour of Unitou. Wellington, 20; United, 15. In the eighteenth head, Brown, jnnr., openod with one on tile jack, Brown, senr., resting beside it after a lucky trick, nnd i'raser getting in n third. This loft a good target, however, and Porteous burned th« head.. On starting again got in a good trail and lay, but Woolf with his second bowl drow one insido it. Wellington, 20; United, 16. In tho nineteenth head Brown, jnnr., opened with a good one, and United lay two till Porteous, with a wcil-judged shot, ran through aiid lay near tho jack' in front, Fraser just failing to beat it. Bell then played a great shot without result, and Woolf pushed tho winner off, leaving .United with two. Bell played a firm sliot very . accurately; the jack being sprung to the side. United still lay, tut the nmpiro was called and the head declared dead. Some good drawing was capped by a perfect shot by Leslie which' lay on the jack, Fraser making a fine try to rest it off, and finishing a good, -second. With his next Fraser mished tho winner olf for four, hut' Porteous responded with a perfect toucher. Woolf shifted the jack, and. Wellington took two. Wellington, 22; United, 16. Kinvig onened the twentieth head on the jack, and some more good drawing was in favour of .Wellington. Woolf drove one off, but Bell put in another, and, though Woolf touched both bowls with his second drire, he failed to remove them, Wellington scoring two. This left Wellington eight up, and'the last head was not playfld./
THIRD ,• MATCH. :' In the first head several: changes eventuated, out of which the Wellington skip scored two. In tho "second head. In the fourth head, Bell sent down a lovely shot, giving ~1 to Wellington, but Woolf mado a magnificent save by a drawing shot. 5—2.
