At the monthly meeting of the Horowheiiua County Council it was decided to call the attention of the Health Department. to tho ; fact that part of the township of Shannon was being, cut up into-sections of from 12 to 15 feet frontage. Tho council trusted that tho Department would take action in the matter. . Mr. H. Oben, who has been managing" the mills of Tennihanui.Ltd., at Tokamaru, for 'some- time past, lias taken over the lSaso of the Post Office Hotel, Foxton. Mr. E. W. Sutton has been appointed successor to Mr. Oben. . Mts. and Miss P. Gunning have left on a visit to the South Island. - A garden party to welcome Archdeacon Coming and JJrs. Comins will be held at the vicarage. j . On Saturday a' rmk of local bowlers journeyed to Levin, whero they defoated a rinlc and brought tho covetea Kinniburg Feathers back to Shannon. Shannon was represented-by Messrs. E. G. Stephenson, J. Mitchell, J. Roach, and H. Knowles (s,), while the Levin team was Messrs. M'lntyrc, Foe, Groves,/and Coirio (s.). The scores word 29 points to 10. In their first game for tho Bevan Cup at Levin, local cricketers were defeated by 83 runs to 62. . The local Dramatic Society will produce "Tho Private Secretary" on February 19. The proceeds from the production will bo devoted to the erection of a pavilion on the recreation ground.
