Feilding Notes. On Friday, Mrs. Gillespie and Mrs. Hnllitlay gave a most enjoyable garden party for Mrs. Cottcrill, who is going to live in Timaru. _ Competitions and jnusio were greatly enjoyed. Among the guests were Mcsdamos Coterill, Hall, Miles, Long, Walker, Hoult, Giesen, Hocking, Gorton, Fry, MncKay, Horrocks, Wheeler, Atkinson, Barton, Vonables, M'Lennan, Misses oJHalloran,0 J Halloran, Hnd9on, Venables, and others. On Saturday a team from the Feilding Tennia Club journeyed to Palmerston to play a return match against the Palmerston Club. Palmerston was represented by Mesdames Pijkett and. Clero, Misses Forsyaith, and Mason, Messrs. Addison, Carter, Dnnlop, Winton, Pavitt, and Drew. Tho Feilding representatives wero Mr.s. HagS'tt, Misses >Sliannon, Hare, and M'Beth, essrs. Lawson, Graham, Bayly, Barron, Hawke, and -Haggitt. After most enjoyable games, Feilding was defeated. The Palmerston club provided delicious afternoon tea, nntl did everything possible to make t'ho time pass pleasantly. On Tuesday night Mrs. Gillespie gavo a jolly bridgo party in honour of Mrs. Hall, .who will soon bo leaving Feilding". Among the guests wero 'Mesdaaieg Hall, Miles, Gorton, Long, M'Allum, Horrocks, Halliday, Atkinson. Revington-Jonos Kingdon, Wheeler, Misses Spaiii (2). and others. ■ The engagement,of Miss Connie' Wheeler to Mr. Hill, of Chrisbchurch, is announced, tho wedding to take place towards the end of the year. Mrs. Giesen haa returned from Plimmertori. Mrs. Roberts is staving at tile Bay. Mrs. Monckton is at present In town. Mrs. S. E. Gyles and her daughter have returned to Wellington from a visit to Nelson. and the West Coast, ' travelling overland, via Otjra and Buller Gorges, to Chnstchurch. Visitors staying at the Occidental Hotel include Mr. and Mrs. Whitehead (Auckland), Mr. and Mrs. Devery (Poverty Bay), Mrs. Booth (Hawko's Boy), Mr. and Mrs. Fairey and Miss Fairey (Nelson), Miss Padiour (Dannevirke), Miss Hooper (Danncvirke), and Mr.-and Mrs. Cameron (Wairarapa). .' ' _A social evening is to bo held' at the Pioneer Club on Monday in honour of tho visiting delegates of tho Freo Kindergartens of New Zealand. All members of tho club are invited to bo present: Miss Coralio Smythson, who has been upending tho Christmas holidays in Cooma, Now South Wales, returned by the Maunganui from Sydney, on Wednesday. Next week slio will-leave oil a fortnight's visit to Masterton.
An important event in tho historyof tho Free Kindergartens of this Dominion is tho conference which sits in Wellington on Monday and Tuesday, Delegates will be present from tho Free Kindergarten Unions of Auckland,- Duncdiu, Christchurch, and Wellington, and they will disouss, for one thing, the question of federating the various unions and of establishing a Dominion standard of proficiency in regard to tho teaching staffs. The conlcrence will be held at Mrs. Grady's residence, a room having been kindly placed at the disposal of tho delegates. Mrs. Gill and Miss M. E. Richinond will represent Wellington. Mrs. Couzens is now acting-secretary for tho local union in place of Mrs. Cleghorn.
