DEATH UNDER AN ANAESTHETIC.

An inquest was held this'afternoon, on tho body of Elizabeth Young, aged 05 years, wife of Anthony Young, of Fairfax, who died at tho 1 hospital early this mom-, ing while under chloroform. Tlio medical evidence..showed' that tho. deceased had been suffering from' cancer, and her only clmnco of recovery was to undergo an. operation. Her general condition was not at-all satisfactory,',«nd it wan recognised: that there was gravo risk, both, in regard to' an anacsthetio and the operation, Tlio operation had. to 1» performed in two stages. Sho camo through tlio first staff# very well, and but. little moro remained to be done. At the second operation, tho patient suddenly oollapsed, and in spit© of all efforts she could not be resuscitated. Tho second operation was hot serious, and the haemorrhage wns practically nil. Tho patient died from respiratory failure, duo to the anaesthetic. About throO weeks .elapsed between tho operations. DofMsod made an exoellent rccoyery after the firet. Tho anaesthetic used wns ether, which was the safest' that: oould bo used. De* oeased had been in 'poor health for wo years, and was wry had during tho lost eight months. Tlio coroner found that death was duo to heart, failure after an anaesthetic, rendered lioecssary/ by. an important operation. ■
