Tho Government was opposed to compulsory 6orvicc, but it might bo desirable to;go in for compulsory physical training in connection, with continuation schools./ It might be that the uso of arms and simplo military formation would add to the selfrespect of boys and lay the foundations -on which a great schemo of dofence would bo based if dangers menaced the country. - J{-

London, February 11. Lord Hcrschel stated' that in 'addition to 253,000 Territorials; tho National Reserve numbered 190,000. Tho Government was convinced that proper provision had been made- against particular dnpgefs, and was' able to guarantee that the country had been safeguarded.
Lord Roberts said that, speaking as a soldier,- it was nonsense to say tho Torritorials were fit for war, '/■ '.'.-..
