OVERWHELMED BY A BLIZZARD.

The steamer Terra Nova which arrived in New Zealand watersfrom the Antarctic on Monday brought the sad news that Captain Scott's expedition to the South Pole resulted in a deplorable disastor. The Commander arid the party which accompanied him 1 on his final dash -to tho Pole perished in a blizzard. The party succeeded in reaching the Pole on January 18, 1912; but on their return journey were caught in a great snow storm on March 29. Captain Scott, Lieutenant' Bowers, and Dr. Wilson died on that date, and Captain Oatcs succumbed some days later. Petty-Officer Evans was killed by an accident. The news has created a profound sensation throughout the civilised world, and there have been many expressions of rcgict at tho calamity and sympathy with tho relatives of the dead men by well-known cxplor- ■ ors, leading scientists, and others. Captain Scott reached the South Pole just about a month , < ■ after Captain AmundEen had departed from the place, and found tho records left by the Norwegian explorer. • ' ''The story of the,intrepid explorer's final dash, his achievements, and tho extraordinary scenes of misfortune which dogged Captain Scott all through, is graphically told in tho , account wo,publish below.
