Orontes, arrived in London on February 8, due date. A Chambers sitting of the Supremo Court will be held before Mr. Justice Chapman at noon to-morrow, fae Prime Minister desires to acknowledge receipt of a five-pound note from "A Friend, for the Plunket Nurses' Fund. The money was received last night and will be handed over in due coiirse".
Stalwart constables were lined up in force in tho yard behind tho Lambton Police Station yesterday for tho purpose of inspection by the Minister for. Justico (tho Hon. A. L. Hertfmnn). Prior to inspecting the force, the Minister, 'accompanied by Police Commissioner Cullon, ivas shown'over tho police quarters by Superintendent. Ellison, who was accompanied by Sub-Inspector Shecltan: Tin. detective- force also paraded aud was inspected. . At a. meeting of the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals hold last evening a report on the .matter of holding a conference of representatives of kindred societies was received and adopted. The report, which was drawn np by a special subcommittee, recommended that the conference be held on April 30. The report also recommended that the various societies be asked to send notices' Of motion, and suggestions for the conference not later than March 30. the order paper to be then sent out not later than March 29. The usual meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held ii. the local council chambers last evening. Tho following were present: Councillors Hildreth (in the chair), Bradnock, Horn, Nimmo, Stawlcn, Bum, Anderson, and Hamilton. Tho business was of a routine nature. Mrs. Fletcher Johnston's collection of English Water-colour Drawings will only lie on view nt Messrs W. H. Turnbilll's Gallery, 27 Pnnnma Street, for a few days longer.
