A midshipman, Michael Greenwood, was killed at Portland on December 31 in a coaling accident in tho battleship Bellerophon. Through the jamming of/.a hoist more than a ton of coal bags fell on his head,'.death being instantaneous. The body was borne ashore by. four officers and eight bluejackets in full dress. . Mr. Greenwood only, passed out from the instructional cruiser in September, 1912. He was head of his term and a young officer of great promise. During tho Motor Cycling Club's run from London to Exeter and back, which ended at Hounslow on December 28, one machine took fire at Yeovil, and its rider was enveloped in flames. By rolling on tho ground, and with the assistance of a companion who threw a coat over him, 'the rider extinguished, the flames without receiving any injury. '
