PTOMAINE POISONING.

THE RANGIOItA PICNIC SUFFERERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, February 10. Inquiries made to-day disclosed the fact that tho majfirity of those who attended tho picnio of Messrs. Weeks, Ltd., at Rangiora, on Saturday, and suffered from tho effects of ptomaine poisoning, were well enough to resume work as usual this morning, though some were rather shaky after their unpleasant experience. A young 1 lady who was left behind at Ilangiora returned to town to-day, having recovered from the effects of poisoning. In some casos the effects did not make themselves manifest for some time. One young ladjr, whilst bMng escorted on Saturday night to her home, a ltiilo or so beyond Papanui, was taken suddenly ill, and her escort was under the necessity of ringing up for a taxicab to convey her home. One of the mala employees only took ill to-day,' aiid had to go to his home. It is understood that inquiries will be mado by the Hospital Board's Health Inspector into the cause of the poisoning. As far as can be ascertained, no blame is attachable to tho caterer. The salad dressing was made on Saturday morning, and it is assumed that tho poisoning-was due to the fact that tho salad was put on to a tin plate, and that deleterious chemical action was thereby set up. ■
