" " Tho Memorial Training College, to perpetuate., vna.memory of General AVilxiam Jiootll, ivrii be a very imposing building, tho . design has been selected from, those which have been got out l'or tho. purpose, and was' executed by Messrs. Fearn and Quick, architects, ot Customhouse Quay. The land which'has been purchased is situated in Wordsworth Street, not far from the Wellington Bowling Club's green—ntarly an acre of land with over 100 feet frontage and'a depth of between 300 and 400 feet. The ground, rising.with a'nice .'slope from-the frontage,' will give the building a splendid position. ' It. is proposed to place the building in the centre of tho property, and from its windows and main entrance thero will" be'a lovely view or tno expansive waters of Port Nicholson, of the llutt Valley, and tho surrounding hills. The building will contain".overy convenience for a collcge.-for men and women officers in training, two complete sets of apartments for 25 each of each sex,, with all the necessary clasis-' rooms, bedrooms, libraries, etc. Summarised, they will be as follow:— 50 bedrooms for the'cadets in training, 60 bedrooms for officials on tho staff, 2 large class-rooms, 2 teachers' common-rooms, 2 large dining-rooms, 1 kitchen'and scullery, 2 libraries, 2 principals' rooms, 1 reception room, 1 largo lecture hall, seating 150 persons, 2 large lavatories with all conveniences, and 8 bathrooms,, and to-these must be added all the necessary Outbuilcljngs and basement rooms, such as Tecreation room, box : rooms, changing rooms, etc., malting a very completo building, which, according to present intentions, will be erected in brick.. The' Salvation Army has wisely put their effort into a memorial scheme that exactly brings about an object very dear to the heart of tho late General, as he had set his heart upon providing colleges for the better equipment of the officers ot the Salvation Army for spiritual and social service for overy phase of social lifo in our midst, both for city awl country. Tho New Zealand executive of the bal-1 vation Army is deeply grateful for tho way tho memorial appeal has been responded to, and they have.faith that tho people of New Zealand will not fail them, but pro'vido the full amount of the ~£IO,OOO required to completo the scheme. Commissioner Richards is full of praiso to tho generous folk who have led , the way with tho large amounts appended herewith, and is just as thankful and ap-. preciativc of those who havo done what they could in a smaller way, all .u proud of the response from _ .tho individual members of tho organisation also, who havo done nobly. The last few thousands aro often liardestito obtain, but the Commissioner feels there aro many more friend; of tho movement and admirers of the Grand Old Man, the'late General Booth, who will yet respond, and bring the'scheme off as a triumph.
