6'everal improvements have been made in connection with the management of affairs atf the thermal reserve of Whakarowarewa, at Rotorua, since the appointment as manager of Mr. Wynn Williams, formerly of Wellington. Occasionally complaints had been niado of the importunities of tho Maori guides for moro money than should bo oaid them. For example, some of tho guides on occasions asked for an extra fee for conducting visitors over tho model pa. This has been absolutely put a stop to, and a notice ha 9 been' exhibited at tho entrance to the reserve stating in tho plainest teimß that the guides aro only entitled to a fee of one shilling per head for those shown over tho f rounds. Each of the authorised guides as now to wear e. badgo upon the arm as their authority to act in that capacity, and to prevent touting on the part of anyone for guido work. The model pa is far from being a model pa. It is being allowed to fall into decay. The thatching is falling to pieces, tho fences aro broken, and in somo cases tho carvings have been knocked about.
