NAPIER GAS COMPANY. " (By Telegraph.—Press Asaooiatlon.) Naplor, February 7. In tho report of the Napier Gas Company, it ie stated that an interim dividend was declared in "June, and thero remained a balance of a further £705 G. It was resolved to declare a further dividend. o,b' sorbins £4511. The balance has been carried forward. Tho chairman, in congratulating the shareholders on the success of the year's operations, eaid that in keopin? with the . board's policy of progress, a system had' been inaugurated providing for tho fixing of gas-cookinit stoves free of charge. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Chrlstchurch, February 7. Thero has been n fair quantity of wheat offorinß during tho interval between the present and last report, mostly from the North Canterbury district. There has been a good demand for wheat from Waikarl or on similar country, and millers havo been giving 3s. lid. to 3s. sd. for it, most of the ea-les having been made at 3s. 4Jd. This wheat is especially useful for early milling, and invariaHly commands tho highest price early in the season. There is not likely to bo an export of wheat this season. The local prico is now above oxport value, but tho market will be practically ruled by the prico at which Aus-, tralian flour can be landed in Now Zea-" land. Oats are offering pretty freely, Duns being plontlful, but they are mostly light end thero is no demand for any but good iramplos. Owing to tho difficulty of ms.li-' in? profitable sales, merchants are not inclined to give more than Is. lid. or Is. llid. at the outside for Gartons. Barley is coming forward in nico condition, but tho proportion of prime quality is not largo, the bulk being light. For-prime malting, 4s. ifc being paid. Thero is a fair quantity of Cape Barley and ryecorn offering, and the price offered for both descriptions of grain is 2s. (country stations). The grass seed market fs weak, and Is. 3d. to Is. 9d. is the general range of prices. Not much business is as.yet being dono in cocksfoot, and tho prico ranges from 3d. to 4d. The white clover crop is an unusually prolific one, and tho Beed that is being offered is much above the average in condition and quality. Up to lOd. per lb. is being offered for prime samples. Offers are now being made of £4 per ton for early varieties of potatoes,' for March delivery. It is not known yet how the crops will turn out. They look well, and tho late rain will have considerably bonefltod -them.- y SHEEPSKINS. ' HALFPENNY ADVANCE ON THE JANUARY VALUES. The advance of a halfpenny per lb.,' which has been , registered in all counts of Bradford tops since the sale held hero in January, was fully reflected in the prices realised yesterday, taking into consideration tho quality, of tlio wool offered. About 15,5C0 bales were, submitted by tho local brokers, and tho competition was exceedingly keen. Tho attendance of buyers was exceptionally good, all the buyers who have boon operating during tho season being present, thus proving that they wanted tho-staple. - .1 Tho market does not expect to see much bright and attractive wool at tho Febru- , ary salo, but yesterday's catoJoguo proved an eiceptiou, thcro being quite • a number of nico lots, and tho condition of the wool was above the usual average-of February offerings. The 'bidding was brisk and , animated from 'tho very- outset, and values showed an advance of id. to id., as compared with January "rates, and most of the lots were sold under the hammer. The wool market is especially firm, and the outlook is very encouraging. ' The reports of tho several selling , brokers aro apponded:— i ' Oalgety and Co." Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Toport as follows:—A catalogue of approximately 15,732 bales was offered by all brokers, and our portion of this total was 5068 bales. The. buyers wore fully reprc; sented, and competition was very animated, tho bidding being keen for every lot submitted. The firm market " ruling, at tho close of the January sales in London had a splendid effect on -yesterday's offering, and tho result was that- there was a rise, after making duo allowance for condition, of from id. to-Id. per lb., as compared with tho wool sale held, hero on January 8.
