' « ■ THE SIXTY-FIVERS' SINGLES. THE TWO OLDEST TO PLAY OFF. . The sixty-fivers' singles, initiated by Mr. J. J. Roberts, secretary of the Northern. Bowlinjr Association, ha? evoked a great deal of interest among the bowling fraternity of Wellington, and has induced somo capital play from bowlers who may bo said to be in tho autumn of their lives. The winners on the Newtown and Wellington greens played off on the lastmentioned green last evening, with tho following result: — Brice (Newtown) beat Geo. Evans (Wellington), 22—11. Lockio (Wellington) beat Meyerick . (Newtown), 25—12. The semi-final match between Price (Newtown) and Lockie (Wellington) produced a splendid game. Both of these splendid old' players were in good form, and were drawing with wonderful judgment. On the seventeenth head the scores wero even, but after that Lockie 6lowly forged ahead, and beat his man, 19—14, This leaves tho final to bo played off at 4 p.m. on Monday on th« Wellington Club's green between Lockie (Wellington) and Freeman (Thorndon). Strangely enough, these two sterling players are the two oldest players to en- ( ter. Mr. Lockio will bo 79 years of ago ! in June, and, Jlr. Freeman 79 in April i next. With such a hale and hearty lot of t old men a3 participated in tho contest, i bowls must oo considered an aid to j longevity. ; .
