, (From ocr flntclal Corr* Isondent.) 9 .At tho King George Theatre last evening, an interesting lecture, entitled "A Trip America and Canada" (illustrated by. lantern views) was given by Mr. W. H. Russell, of Lower Hntt. The proceeds are in aid of the Hutt Bistrict High School picnio and prizo fund. The latter portion of the programme was given io elocutionary and vocal iteftis. These were contributed by Miss Parsons, Messrs. 6. J; Hill, J. C. Bell, and J. Wray. ; A special meeting of tho Hutt Park Committee was held last evening. - Contributions were received towards the'com-, mitteo's fund from the Hntt and Petone; .Councils, the amonnt in each' instanco being £20. this being the balance of -£65 promised by each body. The Hutt Eivor ■Board wrote offering to suppjy the committee with 6oil for top-dressing at fourpence per yard. Mr. P. W. Cameron, 1 who tendered for a'lease of the park at a rental of ',£SO per annum for grazing purposes (a lease that was not completed), wroto stating that ho could not see his way to completo the contract, and now offered to take the reserve at .£3O - per annum.—lt was resolved that . the lease be not further proceeded with. The Hutt Valley Trotting Club for negotiations to be reopened for tho" lease of tho park for trotting. It was decided that tho club be informed that the committee wero prepared 'to open negotiations, but that it mipht be found necessary to alter the position of the course as laid out on the old plan. A. Bennett, secretary of the Hockey Association, informed the committee that the Hockey Association wero anxious engage- tho grounds for the coming season, at a reduced rental, provided that tho grounds were considered satisfactory "by 'his association. On the suggestion of Mr. Baldwin,- it was decided to discuss the tenders for the supply of soil for topdressing before dealing with the Hockey Association's letter. The tenders submitted were mostly for cartage only, King Bros.' tender being 2s. per yard (cartage), P. H. Qossa 2s.'Ga. per yarn, C. O'Connoll Bs. per yard (soil and cartage), A. Peters and Sons 2s. per y»Td (cartagoj, J\ L. Simpson Is. 6d. per yard (cartage). It was resolved to aocept tho Hutt Eiver Board's offer at fourpence per load, and F. L. Simpson's tender for cartage/ The quantity to be obtained is four mindred loads, and the Eiver. Board is to bo asked to give two hundred additional loads free of royalty. The chairman stated that tho oommlttee was not in a position to guarantee the .Hockey Association six flrst-cla33 grounds, and it was resolved to Inform tho association what the committee proposed to djo, and to ask for tho association s cooperation as tho work progresses.
