Opera House before 'a largo audience,'which thoroughly enjpyed' the merry performance. ."'■■■■' The two-farewell performances, of the >Ncw Comic Opera Company will be do-' voted to a - revival of that ever-charming 'English opera '.'Dorothy," which will bo; for the first time this evening. :with a very complete.cast, including Mr.' B. Roberts as Geoffrey Wilder, his original character; Mr. W. S. Percy as lurcher; Mr. Victor Prince, as Squire/Ban'tarn;.Mr. Edmund, Sherrns as John Tupjpitt; Mr. E. Wynne as Tpni Strutt; and Mr. Talleur Andrews' as Harry Sher:wood. 'Miss Amy. Murphy will be seen 'here for the first time as Dorothy; Miss 'Dorothy Brunton as Phyllis; Miss Celia Ghiloni as Mrs. Privctt; and Miss Sybil' Anindaleas Lydia Hawthorne. It is several years now since the firm of J. C." Williamson presented Alfred Cellier.'s glorious work, and it,is one of-those de r ■ lightful comic, operas that ever appears to be fresh, and .the present company 'should bo seen to advantage, if one' may judge by their recent performances. jThere appears to bo a great.deal of'interest in this revival, and the box plansseem to assure a largo house for each presentation. ■.-■'. ■ THEATRE ROYAL. /"' Music, magic, and mirth are the predominating features in the programme at present being submitted by the FullevBrennan .Company at the Theatre Royal.' Victor the Great is puzzling all beholders with his clever thumb-tic trick, which is certainly a most mystifying performance. Members of the audience are invited to tie the performer's thumbs' together as. tightly, as possible, yet solid rings; exhaustively examined (by members of the public are threaded on to Victor's arms as quickly as they are thrown to him. Other equally solid articles'are passed through the ''tie" as easily as if the hands wore wide apart, without disturbing the.knotted string which tics the thumbs together. . The trick gains in mystery tlirb'ugh v being performed under the .very noses of .the. committeemen on the stage. Other capable entertainers aro Miss Maud Fanning, the Elliott Sisters. Arthur; Elliott, Fred. Rivenhall, Hcdlcy and Bartlett, and the Lyntons. •
HUGARD'S WONDER SHOW. At tho Opera Houso on Monday next, February 10, tho East will bo brought vividly before our eyes in the performance of tho celebrated magician Chine; Sung Loo and his assistants, in the act, "A Night in a Chinese Palace." Trick after trick, illusion after illusion follow each other in rapid succession.and the audience has hardly timo to wonder how : it is dono when another marvel is sprun? upon them. In the first'part Hngard will perform his great rifle feat, and give an exposition of sleight-of-hand for which ho is famed. An exhibition of the black art will also be given, which is new to New Zealand audiences. Miss Myva Errington will nppenr in her. novelty musical act, wh''ch has received preat .-praise.
