There-was an'advance in . fat rattle, as the yarding was barely eiiual to requirements. Bacon pies were easlef. but porkers showed no change.. Store iheep 1 wero again, represented by a large entry, but.' wethers were .fewer - in number, whilo ewes were more minierous, lambs forming approximately about the tamo percentage as last wcok. There waa a large attendance, and considering the unsettled Otato of affairs in tho .sheep world, the sAlo pissed off very VieU. .There were few withdrawals, although trade is a little less brisk than the previous week, especially fOr wethers and ordinary classes of rape lamb 9. Forward rapo lambs soldat ..prices, on a par ..with those rulintt a, week earlier, but, wethers of various ages were, perhaps, 6d. per hoad lower all round, whilst eives wero unchanged. A Southland buyer Secured a number of linos of meririo ewes for transport to ' Invercargill. The following'was the range of priccj:— Lambs, good rape sorts, 129. 9d.' to 13s. 6d,7 extra, to 14s. id.; fair sorts, 13s. to 13s. 6d.; average, lines, dOs. 6d.,t0 lis. 9d.j medium, 9s. to'9s. 6d.; small and inferior,,-7s. 6d. to tx Cd.; ewes, two-tooth, 15s. 6d. for small and medium classes, better sorts makiUg 17s. 6d. to 19s. 5d.; 2 and 4-tboth. 5ma11,.165.: 4, 6, and 8-tooth, 12s. to 16s. 6d., according ■to class and condition; full and failincmouth: (good claas), - lis. 6d. to 12s. 6d.; 6 and'B-tooth (good sorts), to 16s. 9d.; sound.mouth,' 14s. to 16s. 6d.; aged and cull sorts, 3s, for merinos, to (j.: for other descriptions r'-wethers,- '4' and 6-tooth, 14s. to 14a. ,9d.,- ; 2-tooth'..(small), 12s. to 13s.' There .were only 727 fat lambs penned, and they wero mostly of medium quality. The Sale was. not very brisk, aiid prices wero about the same as last week. Best lafnbs made 16s. to 17®. Bd., and lighter, 13s. Id.. to 15s: 6d. :■ !The yarding of fat sheep totalled under 3000, and the supply was; barely sufficient for butchers' requirements. The consequenco. was that. priccs advanced 2s. per head, for ewes, and',ls::6d. for wethers. Tho ranee of prices was:—Prime wothers, 21s. ti 225. 10d.; liehtcr, 175.-to 19s. 6d.; prime ewes, 18s. to 225.; others, 15s. to 17s. 6d. . ; One hundred and seventy-six head of'fat cattle came. forward, against. 193 . the previous week, and 227 on January.22. . The yarding included some exceptionally good animals, and the demand, owing to short supply, was. much keener than the previous week, beef showing an advance all round, equal to Is. 6d. per ICOIb. Steers realised £7 17s.- 6d. to £11; extra, £13 6s„ £14, and £14 155.; heifers, £5 17s. 6d, to £11: extra, to £12; and cows, £5 15s. to £8 55.; extra, £10 15«. to £12. Beef brought 235. 6d. to 31s. 6d. per 1001b.,' according' to quality. Tho yarding of store oattlo wib a medium one, and consisted principally of 15 to 1!n.ontns cattle. The market showed ho improvement on ,recent sales, being, if anything, a shade weaker. Yearlings mado £11 175.; 15 to 18-months sorts. £3 15s. to £4; 2-year nteers, £4, Bb. : Z-yea-r heifers teood)', £5; 2j-year 6teers, £6 I®.; and cows, £2 ss. to' £4 10s. Dairy cows mado £4 10s. to '£10. Fat pigs were represented by a good eri-, try. but the demand'for baconors was easier.. Porkers, on the other hand, were in fair demand, but showed no change in 'values since tho previous wcok. No chonpera came forward. Heavy baconors realised 60s. to 65a.; medium, fOs. to 675. Pil.; and smaller.sorts, 425. to 48s. (equivalent, to 4id. to 43d.' pctr lb.).' Tho best' norkors made 38s. to '445.. and lighter sorts, '335.' to 375. (equal 1 to s}d. ito 53d. per,lb.). Tliero waa a fair entry of stores, and good domand. Largo stores mado 325. ■to 375., and- smaller wrts 223. to 2gj.j weancrs, of which there was a medium entry, cold well, priccs ranging from 130. to 16s. ■
