T , Auckland, February 5. ■Charles John Henry Mahon, who in the early hours of Saturday- morning was found in his.houso'at Otahuhu suffering from lysol poisoning, was discharged from the hospital this morning, and appeared ' before tho Police Court to-day to answer . a charge of attempted suicide. Senior. Sergeant M'Kinnon asked for a*remand" tor a week, stating that it was intended to ask for a remand to Otahuhu, for' tin caso, to bo heard there on Friday week. When Mr. Singer (for accused) asked foi • bail, tho sergeant recalled that tho circumstances pointed to accused having gol . out of bed in the small hours 'of the ' ■ morning .and. seriously assaulted his 'n-ifo ' prior to. taking tho ly/sol, ' Tho magistrate remarked that tho. accused was obviously not of normal balance on tho oc. ' ■ casion of tho alleged offence, and tho , ' question was whether' it would bo dis. crcet to admit him to bail now. Accused would bo remanded till Friday, pending a report from the medical officer. FIRE. •- i Duncdin, February 5. , About 0 o'clock to-night a fire was dis-, covered in tho;premises of Messrs. Soott and Wilson, Venetian blind-makers, in St. And row Street. Tho firo was speedily subdued, but practically tho whole of tho;: centro portion of tho factory was gutted, - and fairly extensivo damage done. Tho building, was insured for .£450 in'tho National office, and tho 6tock for .£650 in the Victoria office.
