SPOLIATION OF BEAUTY SPOTS.
Sir,—As an old former resident in fertile Paraparaumu, and one -who still takes ■ ti deep interest in that; beautiful summer resort, it is not surprising that I was horrified during my usual Christmas visit to find vandalism at work. A picturesque pieco of native bush between' Paraparaumu and Waikanae had been doomed, and already the axeman was at work destroying this beautiful gift of Nature. • That 0110 beautiful spot has ken marked out, and the destroyer is already at work. Is there no law that can stop ihe wholesale destruction of scenio beauty spotseven if on private property? Paraparaumu has been highly favoured, a splendid climate, unsurpassed for fruit and flower growing, a fine stretch of sea bench in close proximity, and yet tho very residents seem to set a sorry valuo on a .grand asset. While on the subject, might I draw the attention of tho. Hutt County Council to tho decidcdly bad state of the road between Paeltakariki and Paraparaumu. I heard several complaints from cyclists as to the ruts and hollows, but I experienced them myself, so speak feelingly from experienced. This used to bo one of the best roads to tho district. Trusting to seo the destruction of these rare beauty spots put a stop to.—l am, etc., WYBRANT OLPHERT. January 27. .
