Sue was removed to tho hospital. Tho boy died' . three hours later. Ho was thirteen vears ;, of age. SUDDEN DEATH AT.PETONE, , v Jiist beforo 5 o'clock on Saturday ' ' noon, Gladys Sykes, aged 20 years, resid; ing at S3 Fitzherbert Street, .PetOto,, died suddenly. An inquest was conducted by Dr.' M'Arthur, district coroner, yesterday afternoon at Petono.. Dr. Harold Harding stated that he wad called to ottend the case shortly after, 4.80 ' p.m; on Saturday, but death had occurred before ho arrived. He could not certify as to tho cause of death, not haying' pro- y viously attended tho case. On* Sunday,'. , morning ho 1 had ' made a - post-mortem v examination, and then found that deceased '' had been suffering from pneumonia. 'That had, apparently, been tho cause of death. ;• Douglas- Forester Clarko stated in ,evi« , dence that he had known ' deceased for nearly two years, ho,baving resided with Mr. and Mrs. Sykes. At.about 4 p.m. on 'Saturday he met her in the passage of tho house, and asked if she was not well. Sho , indicated "no," but did not speak. Shortly after, however, sho asked for brandy. Witness then called her father, and about, a spoonful of brandy was administered. Doceased immediately took what appeared' l ito be a fit. and collapsed. ' James Sykes, father of deceased, stated that since November, J912, his daughter had been engaged in domestic duties at homo. Beforo 4 o'clock on Saturday, 6ho appeared to be in her usual health. When Mr. Clarko' callcd him (witness) hij ' daughter appearod to be in pain, ana death afterwards occurred. >•••'. Margucretta Sykes, mother of deceased, also gave evidence. 1 The coroner stated 'that the- verdiot would bo in accordance with tho medical evidence, viz., that death was duo to pneumonia. ■
