Kaiapoi with sheep, had a small Bchooucr iu tow. JLwo hours later tho ICairaki arrived ill tho and it was ascertained that tho vessel in low was tlio auxiliary' schooner l'alrbuni, a well-known trader between Auckland,' Napier, and Tiraaru. At 1 p.m, the schooner, wds brought inside tho moles, and 1 berthed nt tho Gladstono Pier. Setn on arrival, her master (Captain Thompson) stated that the vessel - saiiod from Timaru on Saturday last with a full cargo of prodtfeo for AYairoa. Ou luesday last, when abreast of Altaroa, tho vessel rail into a strong northerly gale, and sought shelter in Akiiroa. (Jn tho following day sho proceeded on her voyago, heavy weather being encountered. At i a.m. on._ Friday, when in Cook Strait,, tho Fairbaim was struck by a heavy nor'west gale, which blew her fore sail away and also broko lior rudder fastening, When tho gale subsided, efforts wero mado to rig a jury rudder, ' but, - whilst tho operations wero being carried out, tho vessel drifted well out to sea. Subsequently her auxiliary engines were set going, and an effort was mado to get back in tho dirootion of land; but, owing'to a Btrong wind and tho oil running short, Captain Thomson deemed it advisable to seek help. When about threo miles, cast of Capo Campbell, at 7 o'clock last. evening, tlio Kairaki was signalled, and tho ves-', sol was taken in .tow to Lyttelton. Fairly, heavy weather was experienced on the run down tho coast. '
Tho vessel will bo placed on tho Patent Slip on»Wednesday next, whoh repairs will bo effected to her, rudder, and an examination will bp made of her propellors. Sho will probably resume her voyage about the end of' next week; Tho Fairburn is an auxiliary schooner of GO tons. has two, engines of 30 h.p., each driving a separate screw'.' , Tho owners aro Messrs. Cranby and Co.i Napier.' '
