PAHIATUA A. & P. SHOW

WEATHER BAD.

HEAVY POUR IN THE MORNIN,G

(By Telegraph— Special Reporter.) _ Pahiatua, January 31.. What gave every promise of being a record show for the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association was spoileu to-day by, heavy rain. Twelve months ago, when the association entered' its new grounds everything attaching to the gathering savoured of an outstanding newness, but all things connected with!the. show now appear to have mellowed, and, had to-day been fine, the association would undoubtedly have made a big bound along the path of progress.. The elements, however, were against tho association, The rain came down in sheets during the morning, and prevented hundreds of country people from getting in. The association seems to be very unfortunate as regards weather, the past three show days having been wet. 1 After tho downpour in the morning the weather cleared, and there was a fairly large attendance in- the afternoon. Tho entries all round were considered highly satisfactory, no fewer than twenty-four, horses entering for the open hunters' competition,; and, right through, the horse sections were strong. The quality also was a distinct improvement on previous shows. The cattle classes were 'a little behind last year's exhibition, the purebred stock being confined to Jerseys and Holsteins, the entries in each of which Were light. There was fair competition amongst the. crossbred dairy stock. A show record was established by the 6heep entries. . Although there were very few stud sheep in the pens, there was an excellent entry of crossbred and fat stock. CHAMPIONSHIPS.
