DR. ORCHARD AND JOURNALISM.
Dr. Orchard, of St. Paul's,. Enfield, has had au attractive'* offer to devoto him'self entirely, to journalism and literature, which is causing some perturbation in tho Presbyterian Church. At tho recent social meeting he put the facts frankly before his congregation. Writing in the local magazino ,tho editor says:—"lt is tho problem "of tho cross-ways.' Should he accept at Enfield and husband his strength, finding in his present pastorate experiences and opportunities not yielded by the pen and the peripatetic preaching to which he has now recoived a yet louder summons? Chronic and persistent overwork is now telling upon Dr. Orchard,' and his present programme, filled' right up to January, 1915, is enough to break any man down. Wo must certainly struggle against a merely selfish desire to keep our minister* to ourselves, and, as there has arisen 60 unmistakable a demand for him in the Big World, we must faithfully judge tho facts. At the samtf" time, wo feel that, on the whole, Dr. Orchard would lose more than he gained were ho at present ,to devote himself entirely to journalism' and litrature, or to adopt, tho role of a wandering missioner. We don't want you to bo cribb'd, cabin'd, and' confined, but please don't be Orchard of Here, There, and Everywhere. B. Orchard of EnfieVl."
