, ■ FEARS FOE AN ISLAND. News was brought to Sydney on January 22 by the Island steamer'Atua, which arrived from Samoa, Tonga, and Fiji,.that ithe volcano on Neiafoou Island, which has been'in eruption, is now quiet, but the white people report that the lake in tho centre 13 beginning to boil. ; The natives think there is a likelihood of tho island subsiding. They do not seem afraid, however,'and go about their business in.the ordinary way. I.' ' ■ Bananas are very plentiful in the Fiji group, and are likely to remain so providing there is no hurricane. Everything is very quiot in tho Samoan and Tongan. groups, 'i'ho new season's copra in Samoa; will be ready about; the. end of March or tho beginning of April.'/ Tonga is beginning to recover after the hurricane, but it will take a good while "before it is right again. ,
