MAGISTRATE'S COURT

(Bct'oro Messrs. J. M. Ilott, J.P., and F. W. Haybittlc, J.P.) : In the Magistrate's Court yesterday, a girl, 19 years of ago, was charged with stealing (1) on. December 26, £1 in money and a pair of boots value 155., from the Columbia Hotel; (2) on December 27 a lady's skirt, valued at £2 10s., from, the, People's Palace i and (3). on December 27 other articles of clothing valued at 15s. from the People's Palace; Mr. P. W. Jackson, on behalf of tho accused, entered a plea of guilty. Counsel stated that accused was tho adopted daughter of respectable residents of Wellington;-and they .wero willing to take her homo and make restitution. This was a first offence, and their Worships might seo their way to enter a conviction and order accused to come up for sentence when called upon. Their Worships administered a warning to the girl, and adopted the course suggested Ly counsel. Gcorgo Selway and William Ryan pleaded guilty to a breach) of ! the peace, in that they engaged in a fight in Willis Street on 'Tuesday night. Each was : fined £1, in default to undergo threo days' imprisonment. Walter Jory, who was ar.rested at Rekiorangi, near Waikanae, on Tuesday, was remanded for a week on a charge of failing to maintain an illegitimate child in South Australia. For drunkenness, John Pryso was fined £1, with the option of three days' imprisonment. Patrick Leahy, charged with insobriety, was remanded for a week for medical treatment, and a first offender was treated in like manner. Four other first offenders against sobriety were also dealt with.

(Before Dr. -A. M'Artlmr,- S.M.), William George Norris, 4i years of age, was chtfrged yesterday afternoon witih having committed a serious offence in Newtown Park on January 22. Mr. E. J. Fitzgibbon appeared for tho accused, wte pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
