(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) . _.' ! , Masterton,' January 29. , Considerable discussion took place at last night's mooting of tho Masterton Borough Council on the question of the regulation of motor traffic on tho days of the Solway Show. If was cycntually decided to ask the sergeant of polico to make every endeavour to have the bylaws enforced. Local owners of motorcars, requested that tho council prohibit outside cars plying for hire on show days, and it was decoded that tho request bo complied with on certain conditions. A party of masters and students from Wellington College have been camped for the last few days at tho foot of Mount Holdswortlh . .'
People's Day at tho Mastorton Show is to 1)6 observed .is'a holiday from 11 o'clock by the tradespeople of tho town. Dickson being .appointed 1 manaccr. Tho question of the weekly half-holiday provoked a good deal of discussion at the mooting of the Masterton Borough Council last evening. Tho Mayor and several councillors expressed themselves in favour of substituting Saturday for Thursday ns the half-holiday. A petition was, however, presented by tho tradespeople of tho town asking that Thursday lie retaincd. A proposal bv Councillor O'Lcnry that Saturday l>o declared tho weekly half-holiday for the ensuing rear was lost nn division, and it was decided.to adhere to Thursday, An opinion was wad from tho borourii solicitor, to the effect Ihnt on a petition, a poll could be taken "n tho 'half-holiday question,, and 'if the borges=«s favoured a change, this would take effect niter .Time 1.
