The Viceroy, Lord Hardinge. in opening the Legislative Council, said ho was profoundly grateful for the sympathy shown liim during his sufferings. He regretted the loss 1 Of humble lives in the attempt, made on hi 3 own- life., In • most cases, Lord Hardinge said, such crimes were the outcome .of' organised conspiracies, which cOuld only bo dispelled by the public's determination to treat the perpetrators as inciters and as enemies of society.'Aniong, the, incentives should be included intemperate political language, tending to influence an ill-baknced mind. Such hideous crimes he was confident tho people of India would stamp out.

January SO, 1 a.m.) Delhi, January 29. /It is reported that the Bombay polico have discovered a clue- to the perpetrator of the outrage on Lord Hardinge. -Suspicion rests on a'gang of Crafims. The outrage is believed to bo an offshcot of the Nasik- conspiracy. There ! nre several native rumours that privato individuals have offered Lord Hardinge 70,000 rupees for charity to inark his opening of the Legislative Councilat Delhi. ' ■'
.Another operation on Lord Harding© will be necessary to : remove a foreign' substance near the lone which' is retarding the healing of his' wound. '•.'.'
