' Iho annual. session'of tho Senate of ™ University of New Zealand was continued to-day. It was resolved that a special meeting of tho Senate should bo' held in Wellington'a fortnight after tho receipt of the reports from tho English examiners, with power to award degrees, honours, and scholarships for the 1912. examination, and the next annual meeting of tho Senate was fixed to be held in Dun?din on January 1 17, 1914! , A.lengthy report was ''presented' by" tho medical committee.'' It stated its approval of the, report furnished bv Mr. W. P. ■ Johnston, holder of the medical travelling scholarship. The recommendations of the of medicine and dentistry regarding examinations in dental surgery were'approved, except .(he propJs.il by the dental faculty that compensation 'should be, allowed to candidates who had shown excellence in one subject, but had dono indifferently m one other subject. It also approved of the resolution of tho medical faculty regarding candidates who failed at the final professional examinations m not more than two subjects, and adopted the 1 recommendations of the dental faculty in regard to the intermediate examination for M.B. and B.D.S. degree. • Tho Senate having affirmed tho principle that permission should be obtained for students to attend at tho four citjf hospitals for clinical practice, the committee suggested that tb» medical faculty should be requested to. suggest a ssbj-ftio for carrying out the proposal. „The science committee reported that in its opinion- the choieo of subjects for Stnto_ research scholarships is already sufficiently wide. It made no recommendation regarding . tho annual value of these scholarships. The committee pronosed that university--scholarships should be established for the encouragement of research, these scholarships to bo 'held by graduates only, and recommended (hot the committee should draw up a scheme for reward and tenure of (suggested scholarships for, next session. TFnon. the resort by the music committee, it Was decided that the matter nf a conservatorinm of music should be left in the hands of the council of the Auckland University College, and. that the Senate should take no further action until the whole scheme is submitted for' its approval by the college council. The Senate decided that ten .junior scholarships should be Awarded in the December examination of 1913; P™ -J. C. Bradshaw, musical director of niiristchurch, was appointed examiner in'history of music. •
The following.'graduates into degree obtained outside New 7,ealnnd were admitted to the Universilv "of New Zealand :-01af E. Stout, Wellington: Henry W Sfayo, Oisbornc: Grnltam H. Balfour, "innedin: Frances; C. Kilroo. and C. W. Kilr~>, Wellington; Ambrose T. Griffith. Feilding; and James Holt, Timaru.
