Ross, Lambton Quay, on January 22, has now ken recovotodi An important find by the.police yesterdaycompleted investigations, and Mr. Ros9 later called at Chief Detective BroberfPs office and identified the articles as, hia. property. < . , It appears that when Sergeant Trchey was made aware of a burglary at- Mr; Ross's promises on the morning of Jantu nry 22, there was, on another boat, a coni stable temporarily attached to the Wci« lington force. Since the occurrence this constable has been arrested by Detective, Mason on a. charge of theft from otliev p;cmises, and lie is at present in gaol on. remand. It appears that on (he morning of the?, .affair at Ross's, the constable—who, by. tho way, has not been very long in the force—called ot a house in Doulcott Street, and left an overcoat there. This, coat was still in tho samo place yesterday, when a. la'dy in the house chanced to notice a eilli handkerchief protruding from one of the. pockets. With natural curiosity sho pick, ed out the handkerchief to examine it, and was astonished to find, quite a miniature jeweller's shop. The lady told h« husband, the husband told tho 1 first uni« formed constable he could find, tho con. stable rang up the.police station, and a couple of members of tho detective forco proceeded to tho house and recovered the property. The outcome of tho find will be that on additional charge will be preferred against the constable who is in gaol.
