Tho Hon. W. F. Massey, accompanied by Mrs, Massey and Miss-Massey, arrived from tho north yesterday morning. The Prime Minister and Miss Massey left an hour later for Hastings, where Mr. Massey will attend a Ixinqiict to Mr. Hi M. Campbell, M.P., to-night. Mrs. Massey remained in Wellington. 'i'bo H««. F. M. 13. Fisher and tho Hon. E H. Rhodes are at Christclnirch. Tho Hon. A. L. Hcrdmnn and the Hon. H. IJ. iiell are in Wellington. Tho lion. Dr. I'oimivo le.-.res to-day for Waitara, Tho Hon. W. Eraser, arrived at Koxburgh yesterday, and will be in'Duncdin to-day. Ho is expected to return to Wellington on Sunday next.
lho Hon. W. H. .Herries left yesterday morning for Hastings and Napier. Ho will attend tho banquet to Mr, 11. M. Campbell, M.l'„ at Hastings this evening. At yesterday's, mooting of "the Wellington Education Board Sir Walter Buchanan was granted leave of absence until tho end of May.. Tho chairman, mentioned the honour which had been conferred upon the member, and it was decided that a letter of congratulation bo forwarded to him from tho board.

Ho will probably return'in time, to discuss, the results with'tho Bishops' at tho Church Congress in' Brisbane next, spring.

Mr. J, Milwnrd, managor in tlio Pacific for the Pacific Cablo Board,, returned to Auckland from a visit to Doubtless Bay cable station on Saturday. This station,' Mr. Milwnrd states, has been dismantled, and is finally closed. Mr. Milward came to Auckland about,a month ago in connection with- tho opening of tho new direct cablo service with Sydney. Ho will probably return to Sydney on Monday next.. Colonel R. "Winter Evans) the rates per shift earned by .the .contractors during tho month of December. Thcso ■ rates ropresent tho earnings after deducting what tho men had purchased in stores.
