WORLD'S POPULATION.
Tho total population of the world is now estimated at' 1,700,000,000, This is based upon the iiiost recent censuses, whicli all civilised countries now take, with a careful, estimate of the''number of inhabitants of uncivilised lands. Tho proportion ;of the sexes is known' for 1,038,000,000 of those,; the Tatio being 1000 males to 090 fonmles. Tho ratio varies considerably in different places. In Europo Uiero are'looo,tiicn tb 1027 women; in Africa, 1000 men to 1 1015 women; in America, 1000 men to 001 women; in Asia. 1000 men to 901 wb'mon: in Australia, 1000 men to 937.women! The highest proportion if women'is found in Uganda, wliero there aro 1407 to every 1000 men. Tho lowest proportion- is in Alaska and the Malay States, where there are, in 'tho former 391, and in tho latter 389 women toovory-1000 men'
