HOURS FOR NURSES.
: A discussion took place ,at the last meeting of "the Balmain Hospital' Committee regarding the . number ,of . Hours worked by nurses; states the correspondent of a Sydney paper. Aid. Laws complained that tho desire of the subscribers that the nurses should work no more than eight hours was not being honoured, and declared that it was unfair to expect' two nurses to look after the wholo.of the hospital during a nigl(t shift of nino hours. Tho' length .of tho .shift, had been altered without the sanction of the board. * Tlio president-(Mr. Easfcoh) explained that bo had been asked to al-. low. the nurses to work tho nine Lours on each shift, and, as they had mutually arranged to do so, he allowed it to te done. A letter was read from the matron, requesting ft Jfull inquiry regarding the statement mado at & previous meeting of the committee that a nur6o had become a physical,wreck through overwork at the hospital. . It was resolved that the matron be informed that the board had every confidence :in her. .•;
