PROVINCIAL CENTRES.
(From Our 6pccial Correspondents.) CARTERTON. The funeral of the Into Constable, Cnrmody fool; place at the Clnrcville Cemetery on Sunday alternoon in the presence of a largo gathering of friends and relatives. A short service was.first held at St.-Mary's Church. Members of the Carterton branch of the Hibernian Society headed the procession to the cemetery, and members of 'tiie police force wore pall-bearers. The service at the 'cemetery was conducted by the Rev. Father Bowe. The Carterton Territorials, Senior Cadets, and Brass Band-held a church, parade on Sunday morning. The men were formed up separately,, according to denominations, and each section attended its respective church. Commencing from the beginning of March next, Carrington and West Taratahi will have a daily mail service, the letters, etc., being carried and delivered as far as the West Taratahi School.
SHANNON. Tho Ven. Archdeacon Coming and Mrs. Comins have taken up residence at the vicarage. The local Dramatic Society is to .stairc "The Private Secretary" on February 19, when (he proceeds will'be devoted to' (lie improvement o£ the Recreation Ground. Mr. M'Pherson is having a brick buildin;: erected in Plimmer Terrace, the architect being Mr. Tilleard Natnsch. Messrs. J. H. E. Tilling and H. F. Eado aro having residences built in Boyce Street, and a new. shop to he occur/led liy Sir. Bromley is to be erected in Balliince -Street. _ Mr. E. -T. S. Spence is at present building a c"ttnge tr> the'order of tho A., and L.- Seifert Flaxdressing Company. Altogether the building trade is very brisk locally, nnd there is an increasing demand for building sites.
