M. KUBELIK'S VIOLIN.

SEIZUEE OP A £2500 GUAENERIUS FOE DAMAGES. The Berlin correspondent of the "Daily Mail," writing on December 9, states:— • M. Kubelik's famous Guarnerius violin, valued at £2500, was seized by the Court authorities here 'yesterday to satisfy a judgment in favour of Mr. Hugo Goriitz, concert director, London. The judgment was granted in connection with breach' of contract proceedings, instituted "on tho occasion of Jt. Kubelik's New Zealand tour in 1908. Tho bailiffs who made tho seizure appeared at the concert hall where M, Kubelik was to' perform. The violinist offered a cheque in payment of the judgment, but it was refused. M. .Kubelik expects to .regain possession of the instrument before his departure for Vienna,-where ho has arranged to bo operated upon for appendicitis fome time between row and Christmas. His concert yesterday'is harshly reviewed by tlie Berlin critics, but the artist explains that the "starvation oure" which ho is undergoing prior to the operation compelled Mm to play in a weakened physical condition. Jtme. Kubelik, tho Hungarian Countess Marianne Csaky-Szell. was deeply affected by the seizure of tho Guarnerius. and wept bitterly to-day when discussing the incident.
