SERIOUS MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENTS.
COLLISION NEAR TRENTHAM.
SEVERE INJURIES'
ONE CAR UPSET: THE OTHER RUNS THROUGH A FENCE.
A . serious motor-car accident' ocourrod on tho Hutt Road, about a mile on the city sido of Trentham, at about half-past eleven on Saturday, morning.
Two cars were concerned in, tho mishap. Ono car was owned by Mr. M. H. Robertson, tho licenseo of the -Commercial Hotel, arid driven by Mr. Brio Wallace. Tho other .car belonged to Messrs. Collins and Kerr, and was driven by Mr, Joseph Foster. ' ' Mr. Foster was driving Messrs. Hugh John Duff, of Hawke's Bay, Gerald Stead, of Chrlstchurch,- and Michael Murphy, of Wanganui, to the Trentham Racecourse. Tho car driven by Mr. Wallace was conveying Messrs. Richard Middleton Brewer, of M Oriental Bay, 11. W, Brown, of Oriental Bay, Higgins, of tho Etnpiro Bicyclo Company, and Carter, of , the Telephone Exchange, who, also, were on their way to tho Trentham Racecourse!
Tho car driven by Mr, Wallace was ahead, and the other car had just passed it whon the latter < skidded.. The result was that Mr. Wallace's car ran into tho other vehicle, upset it, and threw tho occupants out. • ■ ;• t : v - . Mr. Wallace then lost 'control of hit oar, which went through a fcnco' into a paddock, and pulled up against a. tclo* graph 'pole, about 50 yards away from the point of collision. Tho occupants of this car, also, were thrown out. Mr. Curtis had 6ne of tho .bones of his forearm broken, and tho , , other men in tho vehicle were severely. : shaken. , >'■. Stead, and Murphy wcro not hurt, . i The injured men, were taken to tho : ambulance Tpom the Racecourse, and there attended to by Drs. Fyffo and Gil-" - iqer, who ordered I their removal to Wellington Hospital. , '; .. , : ~ . , ■Mr. Stead, is; reported by the police to have stated that bo^\ cars were travel- , ling at a rate of between 20 arid-25 milei per hour at the time of the accident.
