TII9 hope • was ' expressed that the Government would view the position in a-broad-minded way, and enable tho City' Council to regain the site as an essential preliminary to the work of improving the street. (/ ■Mr. Hcrdman said that he sympathised with the proposal to widen Manners Street, and would consult Mr. .Commisi sioncr Cullen in regard to parting with the Police Station site. He asked whether tho city would be prepared (in tho event of its request being acceded to) to negotiate with tho .Government m regard •to an alternative site.
